The former Inter defender Marco Materazzi has urged city rivals AC Milan to sign his former teammate Lúcio to replace the hole left by Thiago Silva.

Materazzi, 39, who spent one year in England with Everton in 1998, believes that Milan, who are slowing starting to turn around their terrible start to the season, need help in defence after losing Silva to Paris St-Germain in the summer.

He said: “I think that it would be a good bet. Milan has began to recover good players in attack, but the defence still has issues and I think Thiago Silva has yet to be replaced

“I think Lúcio would be the ideal solution, because he can adapt well to the style of defence and bring experience to Milan.”

Lúcio, 34, moved from Inter to the Italian champions Juventus in the summer but has admitted that he is unhappy in Turin and has only been picked for three games so far this season, one coming in Serie A and the other two in the Uefa Champions League.

Before moving to San Siro back in 2009, the Brazilian spent eight successful seasons in Germany with first, Bayer Leverkusen, and then Bayern Munich, and the defender has recently stated that he would be willing to go back to Germany, with Wolfsburg a possible destination.
