VFL Wolfsburg midfielder Diego is hoping to sign a new contract at the German club and is delighted that former coach Felix Magath is no longer in charge at the Volkswagen Arena.

Diego, 27, has not enjoyed the greatest of times at Wolfsburg since joining from Juventus in 2010 and spent the whole of last season on-loan in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

However, despite interest from clubs back in Brazil, it appears the change situation at the club has made the former Santos star want to stay in Germany past his current contract, which runs out in 2014.

“I want to renew, extending my relationship with Wolfsburg is my goal. I’m working on it,” Diego told the German press.

And the midfielder was not shy about hiding his contempt for former manager Magath, who is known for his hard, disciplined approach to management. Diego said:

“Now we are free of the dictatorship of Magath.”

Signing a new deal with Wolfsburg would end the speculation around the players future, and put an end to rumours he would be heading back to former club Santos, who were looking at the star as a possible replacement for Ganso, who signed for São Paulo in September.
