Grêmio have started discussions over current boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s contract renewal, according to the new director of football, but little progress has been made.
The coach met with president Fábio Koff to discuss the terms of a new contract at the club but the two parties failed to reach an agreement and a decision has been postponed.
The talks were confirmed by incoming director of football Rui Costa: “The converstation was between the coach, the president and a lawyer.
“They had a discussion of the terms and financial issues. It was a long meeting, where they talked about various subjects.”
Rui Costa urged fans to be patient with the process: “We have total respect for the fans and their desires. However, we must be cautious, we cannot be irreponsible.
“We have a number of issues to discuss. Vanderlei knows what is required in football.”
Grêmio are set to qualify for the Copa Libertadores next season as they go into the final stages of the Brasileirão in third place with just four games left to play.
