Santos midfielder Arouca believes that high profile players are more likely to join the club, knowing that Neymar will remain at the Vila Belmiro until 2014.

Arouca, who himself is now a member of the main Brazil squad, is hopeful that after a poor 2013 campaign, the club can return themselves to title-winning ways next year.

To do so, the club will have to strengthen and the midfielder insists that Neymar’s presence can play a major role in the club’s recruitment plans.

“Having Neymar in the group is a great thing. Santos managed to keep him, with a contract until 2014, and that shows we plan to have a strong squad in 2013,” he told reporters.

“We have the Brasileiro, the Paulista and we are also fighting for a place in the Copa Sudamericana, which is another way of entering the Libertadores in 2014. Because of this, many players want to come to Santos.”

The likes of Renato Augusto, Nenê and Diego Souza are linked with a move to the club this coming transfer window and Arouca hopes that some big-name arrivals can return the club to the top of the Brazilian game.

“Signings are always welcome, even more so those quality names that are being discussed,” he finished. “Santos has a great squad. If new players arrive, we will return to fighting for titles in 2013.”
