Flamengo midfielder Muralha will miss the rest of the 2012 season after suffering a fractured toe in training on Friday.

Muralha, 19, will not undergo any form of surgery on the injury, but will spend the rest of the season on the sidelines to allow the fracturee to heal.

“Muralha has a fracture at the base of his little toe on his left foot,” said club doctor Márcio Tannure. “He will only return next year. He cannot play again this season.”

The news comes as a blow to the midfielder who has not taken to the pitch since 12 September, following an abdomen injury suffered in training.

The aim for the young midfielder will now be to return in top condition for the 2013 Carioca State Championship, which could propel him into Dorival Junior’s first-team for next season.
