Internacional came from behind to win 2-1 at Vasco da Gama last night thanks to a first-half brace from Diego Forlán.

Vasco defender Jonas gave the home side an early lead with a neat turn and low finish following a cross from former Lyon midfielder Juninho.

Forlán levelled for Inter on 34 minutes, after Andres D’Alessandro threaded a defence-splitting pass, and the Uruguay forward scored again on the stroke of half-time, which proved to be the winner.

The result leaves Internacional sixth in the standings and maintains their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Inter defender, Nei, said: “It was a great win against quality opposition.

“Now we have to try to string some wins together to stay in the fight for the Copa Libertadores.”

Vasco remain in fifth but Marco Oliveira’s side sit five points behind fourth-placed São Paulo, who occupy the Copa Libertadores qualifying spot.

There are now just six Brasileirão games remaining this season, as Inter prepare to face struggling Palmeiras in their next game whilst Vasco will travel to eighth-placed Corinthians.
