Botafogo manager Oswaldo de Oliveira has sprung to the defence of young defender Dória, after his mistake led directly to a second-goal for Vasco in Bota’s eventual 3-2 win.

Dória, 17, has impressed since breaking into the first-team earlier this season, but found his pass intercepted by Vasco veteran Felipe who supplied makeshift striker Carlos Alberto to score.

The defender, who stands a good chance of making the Brazil Under-20 side for January’s South American championship was disappointed with his error, but his manager believes he must quickly put it behind him.

“Dória is hurt by his mistake,” Oswaldo told reporters on Friday. “We talked with his and his team-mates are helping him.

“It’s a part of football and with experience you realise this. His personality will mean that he figures this out.

“He is someone who makes few mistakes and when he does, he makes a big effort not to make the same error again. He is not so amazing technically, but he has a great personality. I’m sure he will improve because of this.”

Botafogo return to action next Wednesday night against Figueirense at the Orlando Scarpelli as part of Round 32 of the Brasileirão 2012.
