São Paulo striker Luis Fabiano believes that Ganso can give the side a boost in their run-in to the end of the season, provided he can get himself fit.

Ganso, 22, joined São Paulo last month from Santos after a protracted transfer negotiation but, to date, has been unable to start for his new club due to a thigh injury sustained earlier in the summer.

Seleção veteran Luis Fabiano even joked about tactics discussions he has already had with the young playmaker ahead of his return. He told Globo Esporte: “I told him not to play the ball too long once he starts, only to feet. At my age I cannot run much.

“The desire to see him play is not only mine, but that of the whole group. We hope to call upon a great player. He is happy to be here and he is working hard to get fit. Soon he will be here with the group to help in this final run.”

São Paulo currently lie in fifth place in the Brasileirão table, four points behind fourth placed Vasco da Gama in the fight for a Copa Libertadores place.
