Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he finds it a difficult decision to omit midfielder Anderson from the starting line-up, but is set to start the midfielder in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Anderson, 24, played a starring role for the Red Devils in the club’s Capital One Cup victory over Newcastle last week, but was once more left out of the starting line-up for the league defeat to Tottenham on the weekend.

In recent times there have been suggestions that the club would look to sell the former Porto midfielder, but Ferguson was quick to suggest that the Brazilian is still in his plans.

“He’s a difficult one to leave out. There’s been nothing wrong with the form of Scholes and Carrick,” the Scot told his pre-match press conference.

“It makes it difficult to involve others in the team, especially as our desire is always to play with two wide players.

“But, Anderson has done nothing wrong. His pre-season form was terrific. He’s a top player,”

Manchester United travel to Romania to take on CFR Cluj on Tuesday night at 19.45 BST.
