Inter veteran Javier Zanetti has backed Jonathan to have a big future at the San Siro despite a difficult start to the season.

Jonathan has been the Nerazzurri’s first-choice right-back so far this season after the departure of Maicon to Manchester City, but has struggled for form.

He was subbed off early in the second-half during the 2-2 draw against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday, but Zanetti believes he can bounce back.

“Jonathan? I reassured him on the pitch that we have full confidence in him,” the 39-year-old told Inter Channel.

“He is a really decent lad who is dedicated in training. We must stick by him.”

Jonathan, 24, signed for Inter from Santos in the summer of 2011 and spent the second half of last season on loan at Parma.
