Mano Menezes has jokingly brushed off questions over his decision not to call-up Fluminense striker Fred for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies with Argentina.
The 50-year-old has omitted the in-form striker, who is the leading goalscorer in the Brasileirão, from his domestic-based team to face Alejandro Sabella"s side.
Fred has previously voiced his unhappiness at being ignored by the national boss, stating he is not expecting to be called up whilst Menezes is in charge.
When asked about his decision, the Brazil coach joked: “I do not exclude anyone for having a strong opinion, I like those who have an opinion.
“I am not looking for nice guys, because my daughter is already married."
Menezes claims his decision was based on Fred’s similarities with other players in the squad, which is why he opted to give São Paulo forward Luis Fabiano his first call-up since the 2010 World Cup.
He added: “Luis Fabiano gives me another variation. [Leandro] Damião is more similar to Fred and is already [in the squad]. I tried to bring in somebody different."
Brazil will face Argentina in Goiania on September 19 with the return leg being played in Resistencia on October 10.
