Maicon has taken part in his first training session at Manchester City, linking up with former Inter teammate Mario Balotelli.

The 31-year-old defender opted to terminate his contract with Inter Milan to join the Premier League champions for £3 million on transfer deadline day.

Maicon arrived at Manchester City’s Carrington training base on Monday and shared an embrace with Mario Balotelli, before getting down to preparing for the club’s game against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

The Seleção international decided to make the switch to the Etihad Stadium, rather than the likes of Chelsea or Real Madrid, in order to link up with former Nezzuri boss Roberto Mancini.

His agent, Roberto Calenda, said: “Maicon made his decision when Roberto Mancini called, as he had started his Inter adventure with this coach seven years ago.”

The full-back is regarded as one of the world’s best players, but was humiliated by Tottenham’s Gareth Bale in the Champions League two seasons ago.

Maicon, who will wear the number three shirt, will be looking to redeem himself when City face Spurs in November.
