Hulk believes Brazil would have been able to score more goals if the fans had supported them throughout their 1-0 friendly win over South Africa on Friday.

The 26-year-old striker, who joined Zenit Saint Petersburg from Porto on Tuesday, netted the only goal of the game in the 75th minute, but it was not enough to please more than 50,000 Brazilian fans who were at the Morumbi stadium.

Hulk, however, is adamant Brazil could have played better against South Africa if the fans had not turned their back on the team.

”I think that if the fans had been on our side from the beginning of the match, we would have scored more goals,” he told SporTV.

”Those of us who play in big teams are already accustomed to the pressure of the crowd.

”The fans should support us more, but that is normal. There are days when things do not go your way.

”It was good to debut for the Seleção in Brazil on the right foot, with the win and a goal. The whole group is to be congratulated.”

Hulk’s words were echoed by his team-mate Dedé, who admitted that the side were not expecting to get such a negative reception.

”We were hoping for more cheers from the crowd. Unfortunately, it was not the way we wanted. But now we will think about the next game,” the Vasco centre-back said.
