Brazilian defender Cris has signed a two-year deal with Turkish side Galatasaray, after spending eight years with Lyon.

The 35-year old, who wanted one last challenge before retiring, has cost the Istanbul club a transfer fee of € 1.25 million, plus bonuses.

The former Corinthians and Cruzeiro player will have his contract extended by one year should he play 25 games for the Lions.

Cristiano Marques Gomes, known as Cris, posted a statement on his Facebook page regarding his time in France.

He said: “I have won many titles, participated in the construction of one of the biggest teams in Europe and I leave many friends and colleagues.

“I want to thank all the supporters of the OL for their tremendous support and passion. I will never forget your home and what you have done for me.”

Cris won Ligue 1 four times with Lyon and represented the Seleção at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
