Brazil goalkeeper Jefferson has revealed that the Seleção’s over-23 players are fighting for one remaining spot in the squad for the Olympic Games – with Thiago Silva and David Luiz already assured of their places.

Jefferson, who fell behind young Santos keeper Rafael during recent friendlies, had been expected to claim a place, but with the two centre-backs confirmed, he is now competing with Marcelo and Hulk for the final of the three overage spots.

“He can only take three players who are over-23, but Thiago Silva and David Luiz are already guaranteed,” Jefferson told Globo Esporte.

“There is still one place in doubt. I am happy to have shown my potential once again. I would support whoever, but I still expect to be on the list.”
