The Uruguay international only arrived at Inter from Atlético Madrid last summer but he had struggled terribly for form and fitness throughout the 2011-12 season, scoring just two goals in 18 league appearances.

Reports over the past two months have suggested that Forlan will leave the San Siro in the upcoming transfer window, but the player himself has recently insisted that his desire is to continue playing for the Nerazzurri.

However, Forlan’s comments have not put off Atlético Mineiro, who have now submitted a formal offer to 32-year-old’s representatives.

”I have made an incredible offer because I want the player, and I want the best for Atlético,” the club’s chief Alexandre Kalil told Estado de Minas

”I just cannot be irresponsible. I want the best for my club and my fans, but I cannot spend more than what the budget permits. I would love to be irresponsible, like most people, but I am not like that. If an Atletico fan asked me, I would say that the deal is difficult but Forlan’s agents are going to take the numbers to him and things can change.”

According to reports from Superesportes, Atlético Mineiro have offered Forlan €6 million over a three-year contract.
