The 27-year-old"s last appearance for the Seleção was against Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier in September 2008, but following an impressive loan spell at Atlético Madrid this season, the midfielder has no doubt boosted his chances of a recall.
"I hope to be in the plans of coach [Mano] Menezes," Diego told reporters. "I understand that I must perform very well for another opportunity in the Seleção because there is a very large turnout of quality players, but I am confident that I will one day return."
