The Uruguay international gave his side the lead five minutes before half-time scoring a simple tap-in from Andrezinho’s corner. He then grabbed his second goal two minutes into the second-half by heading in Andrezinho’s free-kick which was sent into the box from the left wing.

Botafogo dominated possession throughout the game, but they had gifted Bangu a goal in 53rd minute when their right-back, Lucas, accidently headed the ball into his own net from a cross that looked as if it was heading out for a goal kick.

However just six minutes later, Abreu gave the Fogão breathing space when he headed in Maicosuel’s wonderful floated cross sent into the box from the left flank.

Segio Junior managed to pull one back for Bangu in the 71st minute, but any hopes that his side had held for a comeback were made even more difficult almost instantly, when Thiago Galhardo was shown a second yellow card for foul on Fellype Gabriel.

Ten minutes from time Lucas won Botafogo a penalty which Abreu missed, but fortunately for the Fogão captain’s side, Maicousel put the game to bed a minute into stoppage time by coolly slotting the ball home from the edge of the box.
