Botafogo played in the early kick-off on Saturday, emerging as 2-0 winners against Duque de Caxias at the Engenhão. The in-form Fellype Gabriel gave the Fogão the lead in the 36th minute with a strike from close range, before Jobson wrapped up the points midway through the second-half with a simple tap-in.

Playing at the same time were Fluminense, who took on a Bosucesso side that have only won one game this season. Two goals from Fred in the first 15 minutes turned out to be enough for the Tricolor to claim all the points.

Next up were Flamengo, who managed to beat Volta Redonda 4-2 away from home. A brace from Vagner Love and a one goal each from David Braz and Léo Moura was enough for the Rubro Negro to see off their lowly opponents.

On Sunday, Vasco were held to a 1-1 draw against Resende at home. The Cruz de Malta found themselves a goal down midway through the first-half, before Alecsandro saved the Serie A side from total embarrassment with a simple tap-in 10 minutes from time.
