Watched by Mano Menezes, Lucas did his chances of more Brazil caps little harm with his performance, overshadowing illustrious team-mates and opponents.

“I’m young and I still have much to learn. With my style of play, it is natural that I want to move up the pitch,” said the 19-year-old São Paulo youngster in a post-match interview with TV Globo.

“So, sometimes I dribble the ball a bit too much and keep the ball a bit too long. Slowly I am learning. I try to listen to people who want the best for me.”

After the game, Lucas was pleased that his side had secured their first derby win of the campaign, a result that he believes will see São Paulo gain more respect from opponents.

“People will see us differently. We were already having a great season, but we had not won a classic.

“Now we beat a great team, the champions of the Libertadores and we were down to ten men. We are going to work very hard this campaign.”
