Melo has not been called up to the Seleção since his horror performance against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup.
In the game, the defensive midfielder had scored an own goal and was sent off mid-way through the second half, after stamping on Arjen Robben whilst Brazil were trailing 2-1.
The Netherlands eventually won the game and Melo came in for some heavy criticism back in his homeland.
However, since joining Galatasaray on loan from Juventus at the start of the season, Melo has managed to score 9 times in 27 appearances, and the 28-year-old believes his good form will eventually be rewarded with a re-call from coach Mano Menezes.
"If I can keep up my form, I know my chance will come," Melo told Globoesporte.
"What happened to me has happened to other players. Leonardo for example, a guy that I really like, I am pleased to be his friend. But he was never crucified for that elbow at the 1994 World Cup.
"With me, there is still that image of me being sent off against Holland.
"My quality was never been questioned, but they always said that Felipe can"t keep calm – that he would be sent off. This has changed.
"I am more calm and mature now. I remember that FIFA chose me as one of the best players in my position and that was such a special thing for me.
"I believe that I"ve always done my job right and that is why I still believe I can return [to the squad], because Mano has never closed the doors on me."
