The former Brazil international was forced off in the 61st minute during Sunday’s La Liga match against Sporting Gijon.
After undergoing an MRI scan on Monday, a statement on Atlético Madrid’s official website read: ”Diego Ribas suffered ruptured fibres in the quadriceps rectus muscle of the right thigh.”
The club did not state how long Diego will be out of action for, but did confirm that the 26-year-old will not take part in Thursday’s Europa League match against Lazio.
