Henrique gave Santos the lead inside the 10th minute smashing the ball home from twelve yards, after keeper Daniel Varca failed to gather Ganso’s free-kick.
However in the 35th minute the home side equalised thanks to Enrique Parada’s cross finding an unmark Ernesto Cristaldo at the back post – who fired a low half volley in the bottom corner of the net.
Santos nearly re-took the lead after Elano found himself one-one with Varca, but the former Manchester City saw his effort rattle the cross bar.
In the closing stages of the game, the 2011 winners found themselves trying to hold on to a draw, but a minute in to stoppage time Rodrigo Ramallo gave The Strongest all three points heading in Pablo Escobar’s corner.
