It was initially understood that midfielder would sign for Brazilian giants Flamengo this January but after months of negations, the Carioca outfit are struggling to reach an agreement with the Saudi club.

Fla’s local rivals Fluminense now appear as the favourites to land Thiago Neves and their captain Fred told Globoesporte that him and his team-mates are hopeful the club can bring the player back to Laranjeiras.

”We are waiting for him,” the former Lyon striker said.

”We are good friends, we spent the holidays together: me, him, Rafael Moura, Marquinho…Thiago will be very well received at Fluminense. Even if he wasn’t loved as a good person, everyone would still respect him, after all we are talking about one of the best players that’s playing in Brazil.”

”The doors are open for him at Laranjeiras. Thiago is also an idol of Fluminense. He made history with the club. I always speak to him by phone.”

”I won’t touch on the issue about negotiations, but me and the tricolor squad are cheering Peter (Siemsen, club president) and Celso (Barros, clubs sponsors president) to resolve everything right.”

Should Thiago Neves re-sign for Fluminense, it would be his third spell at the club having previously played for Flu in 2007-2008 and then returning on loan in 2009 for five months from Al-Hilal.

The players agent Léo Rabello is expected to hold a press conference on Monday where he will make an announcement on the midfielders transfer situation.
