One of the pre-tournament favourites, Flamengo stumbled to a draw for the third consecutive game, as a determined and talented São Carlos side grabbed the 2-2 draw that sees them progress to the latter stages.

São Carlos took an early lead through left-back Paulo Henrique put the minnows ahead, although it was not long before Muralha equalised for Flamengo, as the ball rebounded off his leg as the defender attempted to deny him at the last. Flamengo went ahead through Samir, with a header from a corner, but even before half-time had arrived São Carlos were back level as Lorrán conceded a penalty, which was converted by Lucas.

Shocks are of course more common at youth level, but for a team containing Brazil Under-17 centre-piece Adryan, as well as first-team players Thomás and Muralha, this is indeed a major embarrassment. São Carlos were in the end well deserving of their result and place in the second-round.
