Deco has played a key role in helping Fluminense qualify for next year’s Copa Libertadores and in recent weeks the midfielder has hit top form which has helped the Carioca club stay in the title race with just two games to go.

The thirty four year was recently linked with a move to Corinthians, but stated he was happy with life in Rio de Janeiro and was determined to play in the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense.

The official announcement was made by Fluminense’s vice president of football, Sandro Lima.

Speaking to the Brazilian press, Lima said, ”Deco has a contract until August 2012, but we’ve extended it until December (2013). He’ll be a Fluminense player through out next season. This should put to bed any speculation linking him with a move to another team. We’ve also agreed to hold a priority clause to renew his contract through to 2013.”

”He told me he was very happy just to be able to play football and wasn’t to concerned about the financial side. I hope he ends his career at Fluminense,” Lima said.
