Over the past few rounds, the former Barcelona ace is currently living his best moment in a Fluminense shirt since arrving in August, 2010.
Deco spoke to Globo Esporte about his critics following the speculation after his injuries and said that he still believes in the team’s fourth title this season.
“Since my arrival there was much speculation about my salary. In Brazil, unfortunately this is something normal. Even with 90% of people knowing that I gave up a a lot of money to play for Fluminense. I came back to play in Brazil for other reasons. If the financial part was my priority, I would of stayed in Europe. Every time I had an injury, money was the subject again and it didn’t annoy me because I always knew the truth.”
Despite sitting five points behind league leaders Corinthians and Vasco with just four games remaining in the league, the former Portuguese international is still not ruling out Fluminense’s title chances.
”The biggest goal is to get a place at the Copa Libertadores, but whilst we have the chance to win the title, we will keep dreaming,” said Deco.
The thirty four year old also revealed he has no intention to leave the Tricolor club and would even be happy to stay at the club beyond 2010.
”I feel happy here” he said. ”We will decide later if I’ll renew or extend my contract. Now it’s not the right moment to talk about it. I am enjoying my time at Laranjeiras and I am very happy. That’s what I wanted to happen and when the things are exactly the way you expected, you think about staying.”
After serving his one match suspension, Deco will return to the Fluminense starting line up in tonight’s home game against Gremio.
