Luis Fabiano inspired Sao Paulo to a 2-0 victory against relegation strugglers, Avai on Saturday night, scoring both goals.

However, the impressive performance from the former Sevilla striker was capped off with a suspension after he received his third yellow card. The consequences for Fabiano is that he will now miss Sao Paulo’s trip to Curitiba on Wednesday, where they’ll take on Atletico Paranaense in their bid to qualify for next year’s Copa Libertadores.

At a news conference after the game, the number 9 shirt regretted the incident and admitted receiving and earful from coach Emerson Leão in the locker room.

”It was silly, because I now wont play in the next game.” he said. ” I didn`t like the fact that I received a yellow card at this point of the championship, either. Unfortunately, I let myself get involved for that moment of the match. I am sure that the opponent grabbed my shirt, but that was not a good reason to start complaining. I am annoyed. Now I`ll cheer and hope that we can get a great result (against Atletico-PR) so we can try to qualify for the Copa Libertadores next season.”
