The Lyon left back was a perminant fixture in Dunga’s 2010 World Cup side, but since Menezes took Dunga’s place as head coach, Bastos has failed to make the squad.

Bastos told FIFA.com, ”im working hard to get my place back, though I know it’s going to be tough because there’s a lot of competition. If I can put some good performances with Lyon, then I might get back in to the Seleção.” He continued, ”my dream was to place for the national team in the first place and i’ve already achieved that, but it’s still an objective that’s there.”

Bastos noted that a change of posistion at Lyon, playing at right back, as opposed to playing on the left, was a major factor in losing his place to Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Arsenal’s Andre Santos.

Bastos has however spoken to Menezes, in which the coach justified his reasons to the Lyon player. Bastos said, ”I saw Mano in Paris when Brazil played a friendly against France. He told me he had choices to make and had his ideas about the team and if I wanted to get back in to the side, then it would have to be in my current posistion, on the left wing.”
