The CBF confirmed the fixture between the two Carioca rivals wouldn’t take place in Vasco’s home stadium (São Januário), because Vasco along with the other four big clubs in Rio (Flamengo, Fluminense & Botafogo) had already agree’d a deal to play all the clássicos at the Engenhão stadium.
Vasco tried to agree a deal with Botafogo to get the fixture played in São Januário, but Botafogo declined. The CBF explained that in order to change the location of a local derby fixture, a decision must of been made ten days before the day of the match.
Vasco currently sit second in the table, whilst Botafogo trail three points behind in third. The two clubs are both competing for this years Brasileirão championship with only six games remaining.
