Under plans drawn up, the new roof will cover an area of 50,000 square metres, with facilities for the recovery of rainwater and the use of solar panels to provide hot water in the ground’s amenities.

Aside from these plans, there are guidelines in place to ensure that the concrete recovered from the stadium is recycled and put to use elsewhere, as part of the plan to make the 2014 World Cup as sustainable as possible.
