Having started the Brazilian league season in fine style, Luis Felipe Scolari’s side have dropped off over the past couple of months and now, the title dream is a distant memory for the players.

“It’s my second year here and have not won anything yet,” says the team’s volante Marcos Assunção.

“I get frustrated, so do my teammates, the management, the coach and the fans.

“If the last thing we have left is to try for a place in the Libertadores, we will give it everything we have got.

Speaking at an interview at the ‘Academy of Football’, the ex-Atlético Madrid man accepted that there would be consequences for a lack of succedd

“Any time Palmeiras ends the year without success, it is right to have reform because many years have passed, since the club’s last trumph.

“When things go wrong, it is normal to have change. This happens in any sport,” Assunção said.

The team is now lying in a lowly ninth position, but despite the poor performance the player believes that coach Scolari should be retained.

“For me, he must stay, because he fights for Palmeiras. We players should we go if we can not follow the orders!”
