The left-back has found obstacles in his career at Manchester United in the form of Patrice Evra and injury.

However, at the end of the 2010-11 season the ex-Fluminense youngster seized his opportunity of an extended first-team spot including a Champions League final appearance – Thanks to a vacancy at right back.

Fábio now hopes to use this versatility to secure a long-term role in the Brazilian set-up.

Questions have occasionally been levied regarding Fábio’s aerial ability due to his small stature at just 1m72 tall.

However, in his first interview as a Brazilian squad member, Fábio gave a robust repost.

“In the youth squads, I scored 13 goals in 15 games,” answered the full-back.

“Many with my head, I have no problems with an aerial game.

“I am very happy at my club, but it is a great pleasure to defend the colors of my country and fans.

“Maybe I will be present in 2014, who knows?”
