The Real Madrid left-back withdrew from the Seleção’s friendly against Scotland in March with a back injury, but then accidentally sent an email meant for his club to Menezes, saying that he was fully fit.

He has not featured for Brazil since, but told Globoesporte: “If I am right, I will play. If I am unwell, I will not play. I’m eager to play for the national team and be done with this thing.

“It may seem like a lack of will, but I always want to be in the Seleção to help my teammates,” he added.

With Barcelona’s Adriano missing through injury, Marcelo is likely to start on the left side of defence and win his first Brazil cap since February.
