A mix up in the Atletico defence led to Figueirense’s first goal, with Elias smashing in a fine volley from 12 yards after eight minutes.
On the stroke of half-time, the visitors doubled their lead. Julio Cesar squared a low ball in from the right, and Elias was again on hand to provide a powerful finish.
Two minutes into the second-half, Atletico pulled one back when Dudu Cearense headed in a free-kick from close range, but it proved to be merely a consolation.
It was Figueirense’s second consecutive win, but Atletico Mineiro have now won only once in their last five games and sit in 13th place.
