It is hoped that such a tour would help the England players to acclimatise to the warmer weather conditions for the tournament, which takes place the following year.

The FA are hoping to schedule two friendlies for the tour; one against World Cup hosts Brazil and the other against recently crowned Copa America champions Uruguay.

However, any game England are hoping to play against the Seleção could be difficult to arrange, with the Brazil football federation chief Ricardo Teixeira recently criticising his English counterparts.

The game against Uruguay, meanwhile, could also be difficult to arrange, and will depend on the playing schedule for the South American World Cup qualifiers.
