The Chelsea player took a knock to his thigh after 75 minutes and could not continue, being replaced by Elano. However, he has confirmed that the injury is healing, and that if he rests during the week he will be able to play in the Paraguay game.

“The doctor told me it was nothing serious,” he said. “I felt a little pain, but that was because of the impact. It felt better during the journey back to the hotel. With some rest during the week, I will be able to play as normal on Saturday.”

His words were backed up by the Brazil team doctor, Jose Luiz Runco, who added: “He only took one blow. He will play against Paraguay.”

Brazil and Paraguay go head-to-head on Saturday, with both sides looking for a win after drawing their opening matches 0-0 against Venezuela and Ecuador respectively.
