The Seleção have are the reigning champions and have won four of the last five tournaments, while Argentina have not lifted the trophy since 1993. However, Menezes believes that Lionel Messi and company will be a big threat in the tournament.

“We know that Argentina is capable of beating us, but we"ll progress through the competition with one thought, that when we make it to the final, it"s because we deserve it and are capable of winning. So that"s how we"re going to look at this tournament," Menezes said.

He also spoke of his faith that Paulo Henrique Ganso and Alexandre Pato would recover to be fully fit for the start of the competition. Both are carrying injuries, but Menezes added: “We were very careful and we received a lot of information in relation to Pato and Ganso.

“We fully believe that they"ll both be in the Copa America together with the rest of the Brazilian squad. Any doubts that we may have; anything that happens outside of our control, we have until the 26th [of June] to make changes."
