Luiz joined from Benfica for £25 million in January, and quickly endeared himself to the Stamford Bridge faithful with important goals against both Manchester clubs.

But he came in for some criticism for some recent lapses in his defensive displays, most recently against Manchester United, where he was substituted at half-time after being given the run-around by Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.

Ramires also joined from Benfica, completing a £17 million switch last August after some impressive displays for the Seleção in the World Cup in South Africa.

He struggled to replicate this form initially, but started to show glimpses of his ability as the season progressed, scoring against Bolton and then again against Manchester City with a memorable solo goal.

“Next season Luiz will be better,” said Ancelotti. “Ramires didn’t start the season so well but after that he played some fantastic games and Luiz is the same.

“They are both fantastic players because they are young, they have a lot of skills, and so for the future to have these players will be very good.”

Ramires has made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, with David Luiz making 12 appearances. Both players have scored two goals, and both will be hoping to be part of Brazil’s squad for this summer’s Copa America.
