Neymar was on the wrong side of the headlines after he was stretchered off the pitch in his side’s1-0 loss to Lyon on Sunday.

The Brazilian forward looked to have snapped his ankle and it looked like the injury could keep him out for a while on mere sight. It came after a nasty tackle from Mendes that eventually saw the Lyon man given a red card after a VAR review.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said after the game that he was hopeful the injury wasn’t serious and thankfully his hopes were proven correct.

“PSG have now confirmed the Brazilian has avoided a serious fracture, and the scan shows on Monday that he has only sustained an ankle sprain. “ the club said in a statement on their website.

The injury suffered by Neymar summed up what was a poor performance for PSG as they suffered their fourth Ligue 1 defeat of the season already. It was also their first loss at home against Lyon for over a decade. The last time this happened was all the way back in 2007.

The above stat now means that PSG have seen their worst start to a Ligue 1 season since the 2009/10 campaign where they eventually ended up at 13th place come the end of the season.

As it stands, the defeat leaves PSG in third place; a point behind Lille and Lyon who are level on points in first and second respectively.

Neymar is not expected to feature when PSG welcome Lorient on Wednesday but the Brazilian could be rushed just in time to be fit for a crunch top-of-the-table clash against Lille on Sunday.
