Official: Julian Nagelsmann to become next Bayern Munich coach
Bayern Munich have announced that Julian Nagelsmann will take over as head coach of the club, starting from the 2021/22 season.
It comes after Hansi-Flick’s relationship with the club’s hierarchy deteriorated after publicly disagreeing with the club’s transfer policy.
Also with Joachim Low announcing his intention to step down as Germany boss, the vacancy was perhaps an exciting one for Hansi-Flick, who has already won five titles as Bayern manager, including the Champions League and the Bundesliga. Flick is now expected to be named as the next Germany boss in the summer.
Appointing Nagelsmann didn’t come cheap for the Bavarians though. Infact, it comes at a world-record price. The highly-rated 33-year-old still had three years on his Leipzig contract, meaning Bayern Munich had to pay off the remaining total of 25m on his contract. This fee effectively makes Nagelsmann the most expensive coach in football history.
Speaking on the appointment, Bayern president Hainer said: “Julian Nagelsmann represents a new generation of coaches. Despite his young age, he already has an impressive CV. We are convinced that with Julian Nagelsmann, we can continue the magnificent successes of recent years,” said club president Herbert Hainer. “I would like to express my thanks to Hansi Flick on behalf of FC Bayern. He took over our team at a difficult time in 2019 and went on to win six trophies, with the seventh hopefully to follow. He will always have a place in FC Bayern’s history books. We wish him all the best for his future.”

Julian Nagelsmann rose to prominence when he became the coach of Hoffenheim in 2016, becoming the youngest manager in Bundesliga history in the process.
He then joined Leipzig in 2019, where he has strongly impressed ever since, including leading them to the Champions League semi-finals last season.
