As per latest reports, Neymar is set to bring months and seasons of transfer speculation to an end.

The biggest player in Brazilian football is set to extend his stay in Paris and will commit to a new long-term deal with the French giants.

Ever since Neymar completed a blockbuster €222m move to PSG back in 2017, there was always a sense he made the ‘wrong’ call in search of glory elsewhere.

It is no surprise that since then, the Catalan giants have been linked to the Brazilian and have come close to re-signing their former player on a number of occasions.

The closest to the above reference came in the summer of 2019 but Barcelona ended up signing Antoine Griezmann.

Over the past few months, rumors have claimed Neymar could consider a move away from the French capital, with Kylian Mbappe also weighing his options.

Speculations with the 28-year-old is now set to end based on the latest reports. Reputable journalist TNT Brazil’s Marcelo Bechler reported on Tuesday that the Brazilian forward has agreed to a four-year extension to his current contract.

An official confirmation from PSG is expected to be announced later in the week.

Neymar is arguably the biggest player in the French capital and his extension will do their ambitions some good. It could also be a big factor in the ‘Lionel Messi’ to PSG saga.

Lionel Messi to PSG

Messi is in the final months of his Barcelona contract and is yet to make a decision on his future.

Over the past few weeks, PSG have emerged as leading candidates to sign the Argentine and Neymar’s extension could play a big role in that.

Despite Neymar leaving the Nou Camp four years ago, he has remained close friends with Lionel Messi. The pair enjoyed a fruitful partnership on the pitch during Neymar’s four-year stint at the club from 2013 to 2017.

Speaking back in December, Neymar admitted he remained in close contact with the Barcelona captain and also expressed his desire to play with him once again.

“What I want most of all is to play with Messi again, to be able to enjoy him once again on the pitch,” he said in an interview with ESPN.

With Neymar set to stay at PSG until 2026, it could further convince Messi to join the French giants given that his close friend will be there for much longer.

Kylian Mbappe’s future at the club remains in doubt and this could also encourage the Frenchman to stay put as well.

Since joining PSG in 2017, Neymar has been prolific for PSG, scoring 83 goals and recording 46 assists in 101 appearances across all competitions.

All that’s left is a Champions League win in France and he would be in a stronger position to win it with Lionel Messi by his side.
