After recording three consecutive defeats in the Premier League, Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

The Reds came into this fixture off the back if 3-1 defeat to Leicester City last weekend. Given Leipzig’s impressive form of late, the Merseyside outfit were in danger of losing four in a row.

Over the past few years, two Brazilians have been central to most of Liverpool’s success. As you would expect, the duo of goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Roberto Firmino were both named in the starting lineup.

In the first half, Firmino was a goal threat upfront and did make some efforts from outside the box on a couple of occasions. It was also a good outing for Alisson, especially given how much he has struggled of late in goal. In fact, the 28-year-old recorded only his second clean-sheet out of 11 games in 2021. Alisson, current holder of the Samba Gold award, is in contention to win the award alongside Firmino once again.

From making costly errors in his last two games, the goalkeeper put in an assured performance against Leipzig were he saved all the shots directed towards him.

The first half ended goalless at both ends but things soon changed in the second period.

Quick-fire goals from the ever-green duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the space of five minutes put Liverpool ahead deservingly.

After a much-needed win, Liverpool would be aiming to build on their momentum when they take on Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday.
