Robinho was rested by coach Diego Aguirre in the Brasileirão fixture between Atlético Mineiro and Santos on Saturday, but the player stayed in the stadium to follow the game.
Atlético Mineiro came out as 1-0 winners, and in the end, Robinho went to visit his former teammates inside the locker room. Considered to be an idol at Santos, the former Manchester City and AC Milan striker remained in the locker room for around 15 minutes and greeted everyone. Santos forward Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, who shared a close friendship with Robinho during his days at the Vila Belmiro, joked that Santos wanted the 32-year-old on their side. Gabigol said: “It’s a part. Football is this. We wanted him on our side! But it was very good to see him.”
Robinho was at Santos until June 2015, before signing a short term contract with Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande. He left China at the end of 2015 and negotiated with Santos once again, but a deal didn’t materialize. Robinho then reached an agreement to sign for Atlético Mineiro, a move which caused an uproar among several Santos supporters.
