Guilherme Siqueira had agreed to join Real Madrid before Fábio Coentrão’s move to Manchester United fell through, insists Granada sporting director Juan Carlos Cordero.

The Brazilian, who subsequently signed on loan with Benfica, had been targeted by Real on the final day of the August transfer window.

“For half an hour there was a contract signed with Real Madrid,” Cordero told AS.

“But it was not registered because of the transfer of Coentrão to Manchester United never happened.

“Both Siqueira and Granada know the transfer was very nearly done.

“It was a loan with an option to buy. It was for over €1 million. Maybe in the future it can be done.

“Siqueira is a great player and remains contracted to Granada.

“Benfica have the option to buy for €8 million but he has two more years on his contract with us.”
