David Luiz has encouraged Chelsea to revive their interest in Corinthians midfielder Paulinho according to reports in England.

The Daily Mail reports that Rafa Benitez will be looking for a midfielder to replace Oriel Romeu after the Spaniard was ruled out for six months due to a knee injury.

John Obi Mikel is also set to miss a chunk of the Blues" season as Nigeria are likely to include the midfielder in their squad for the African Cup of Nations.

Luiz praised his Seleção teammate ahead of their opening game of the Club World Cup: “Paulinho plays for the national team, and [there are] other experienced players like Douglas, the number 10, who has a lot of quality with his left foot.

“I have lots of friends there. I know them, they know me. If it"s this game in the final, it"s a great game to have."

Benitez could also recall on-loan midfielders Michael Essien and Josh McEachran from Real Madrid and Middlesbrough respectively.
