Flamengo Director of Football Zinho has admitted that Adriano could sign a contract with the Rio de Janeiro giants.

The 30-year-old forward has been recovering from surgery on his left Achilles tendon with the help of physiotherapy at the Rubro-Negro‘s training complex.

The former Inter striker is currently working from home due to some faults but Flamengo remain hopeful in their pursuit of Adriano, who helped inspire them to their last Brasileirão triumph in 2009.

Zinho told Radio CBN: “This week I will have a chat with Adriano. He is a player who is an icon of Flamengo. If he is ready, we can talk about a possible contract.

“I have a great affection for Adriano. I’m hoping he will recover soon. He would be a very good name to help the club, like the coach Dorival Junior, but I have to wait for a full recovery.”

Adriano, who is a product of Flamengo’s youth academy, underwent surgery in April and has not featured in a competitive game since March.

The former Seleção striker returned to the Engenhão in 2009 and made 31 appearances, scoring 19 goals.
