Senegal defeats Brazil 4-2 and gives Ramon Menezes his second loss in three matches

Senegal won this Tuesday friendly against Brazil by 4-2 in the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, Portugal. This was the second loss for Ramon Menezes in three games in charge of the Brazilian National Team, as interim coach.

The National Team did not play well and was dominated especially in the second half of the match, struggling against a good performance by Sadio Mané.

The Brazilian goals were scored by Lucas Paquetá and Marquinhos, while Diallo, Marquinhos (own goal) and Mané (twice) prompted Senegal into victory.

Menezes is the interim coach until the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officiates one, which, per latest reports, will be Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, but nor before the middle of 2024.

The first goal of the match was scored by Lucas Paquetá on a header after a good cross from Vinicius Junior. Senegal equalized later before the halftime in a beautiful shot by Diallo.

In the second half, Senegal had even more presence on the offensive side and got an advantage in the scoreboard after Marquinhos tried to deflect a ball but unfortunately placed it on his own net.

It was a beautiful kick by Mané that gave Senegal a 3-1 lead shortly after. Marquinhos scored the second for Brazil in a lucky kick after a corner.

In injury time, Ederson slide-tackled Jackson and the referee signaled a penalty for the African side. Mané took the responsability and gave the match a final score: 4-2 Senegal.

Brazil only had two changes comparing to the match against Guinea last weekend, with Bruno Guimarães subbing in for Casemiro and Malcom replacing Rodrygo.

Richarlison, very booed by the fans, and Malcom were the first to be substituted by Ramon Menezes. Pedro and Rony got on the pitch. Raphael Veiga got in for Joelinton, André for Lucas Paquetá and Alex Telles for Ayrton Lucas. Paquetá left the match complaining under pain in his left shoulder.

The Brazilian National Team will play again in September as the beginning of their fight to participate in the 2026 World Cup. Brazil will face Bolivia as host in the South American qualifying tournament first round.
