How Zagallo’s family acquired the debt

Zagallo’s debt, totaling over R$465,000, came from two labor lawsuits initiated by his former employees, Maria Lucia Vieira Gomes and Fabiane Ribeiro Barbosa. These employees sued Zagallo for issues related to unpaid or improperly reduced wages.

Maria Lucia claimed that her wages were cut by 50% following the death of Zagallo’s wife in 2012, without prior notice, and was awarded R$115,000 by the court for these unpaid wages after her termination in 2021. Similarly, Fabiane Ribeiro Barbosa was awarded R$350,000 for unpaid vacation and wages, accumulating the significant debt against Zagallo’s estate.

Zagallo’s assets

The total assets of R$205,000 left by Zagallo were calculated based on the balances from his bank accounts spread across four banks:

  • Banco Bradesco: R$19,565.94
  • Banco Itaú: R$21,694.69 in a current account and R$159,692.49 in investments
  • Banco Santander: R$4,465.83
  • Caixa Econômica Federal: R$316.45

These figures add up to the total assets presented to the court by Mario César Zagallo. However, they were insufficient to cover the total liabilities of R$465,000 resulting from the labor lawsuit settlements, leading to a net debt situation for the estate.

Additionally, three properties, including two Barra da Tijuca apartments and a Teresópolis house worth R$2 million, were not listed in the court documents.

Remembering Zagallo

The first and second episodes are available on Sambafoot’s Youtube channel and the series will receive weekly releases to tell this legend’s life story.
