The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is once again in the judicial spotlight due to a new scandal that comes at the moment when the team plays against Brazil in one of its two friendlies on the FIFA date.

A plot for alleged cases of corruption involves the entity and its former president, Luis Rubiales, who meanwhile is on vacation on the paradisiacal beaches of the Dominican Republic.

Justice is investigating alleged irregular RFEF contracts, following a complaint filed over the decision to send the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. The possible crimes committed point to corruption, unfair administration and money laundering.

In this context, during this week raids were carried out at the RFEF headquarters, on the outskirts of Madrid, and at different homes such as Rubiales’ in the city of Granada. There were also arrests of seven people, later released, although they remain part of the case.

One of those released is the former legal advisor of the RFEF, Tomás González Cueto, considered close to Rubiales and who would have been in charge of drafting the contracts to transfer the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.

The other is Ángel González Segura, director of a construction company that benefited from works such as those of the La Cartuja stadium in Seville, where the Copa del Rey final will be held on April 6.

Meanwhile, Rubiales is in Punta Cana, and would return to Spain on April 6, where he could be detained. The former leader was already suspended by FIFA for the non-consensual kiss of soccer player Jennifer Hermoso during the ceremony to win the Women’s World Cup played last year in Australia and New Zealand.

Another figure that could be splashed is the former FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, administrator of the Kosmos company, which signed one of the contracts for the transfer of the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
